UNSAFE SEX PRACTICES 1
John, a top sportsman, is in a relationship with three girls. Last week he noticed some sort of thick discharge from his penis, but didn't pay it any mind. He figured that since he was so sexually active this was normal.Yesterday he and the rest of the team members were scheduled to have their annual medical check up and found out that he was infected with Chlamydia. His physician gave him a prescription for medication after explaining to him what it meant to be infected with an STD.
He finished the discussion by telling him how lucky he is that Chlamydia is a curable STD which means that he could be cured from it.
However the chances of becoming re-infected are great if he continues to have unprotected sex. He was also told that he has to inform his partners so that they too can get a medical check up and treatment if necessary.
Do you think John should tell the three girls he's with? How do you think he should tell them? What do you think would have happened if he did not have the medical check up? Are there any consequences for not treating Chlamydia? Do you think the consequences are different for males and females? Give your opinion about this situation?
UNSAFE SEX PRACTICES 2
Mary is in a relationship with Jeffrey for the past 2 years. She is now preparing to leave the island to further her studies. She hopes to go in the medical direction. Jeffrey graduated last year but decided to take a year off from studying and is also preparing to leave the island and further his studies in the IT field.
Their relationship has been on and off the last six months, but they claim to love each other. Mary noticed that her menstruation was late, but figured that the stress of her relationship has messed up her menstrual cycle. After a few weeks she took the home pregnancy test only to find out that she is pregnant.
When Jeffrey comes by to visit her they get in a heated discussion and Jeffrey left upset telling her that he wants out of the relationship (again). Mary did not even get an opportunity to tell Jeffrey about her situation.
What do you think Mary should do? What do you think Jeffrey will do? How would you describe their relationship? Where do you think Mary got the pregnancy test from? What does this mean for Mary's plans for Jeffrey's plans? What are Mary's options?
UNSAFE SEX PRACTICES 3
Sandra just found out from the doctor that she is HIV positive. She is in a relationship with Michael, who has been her best friend since kindergarten. Sandra did not inform Michael that she has been tested for HIV. She just thought that getting tested was the normal procedure for an annual check up. Her fears of that 1 time came back to her as if it was yesterday...
What should Sandra do? Can she trust the test results? What does it mean that Sandra is HIV positive? Where can she get information about being HIV positive? Should she tell anyone? If she should tell anyone help by telling her what to say. How will being HIV positive influence her life ( give 5 examples)?
Do you think the Doctor, was right about not telling Sandra he was testing her for HIV too? How can Sandra get contact with other people in her situation? Can Sandra still have sex? Would she be able to have children? What about Michael?
