Perceptions of Living With STDs!
Part 1
Jasmine has been with her boyfriend for 6 months. A few weeks ago Jasmine noticed a bump around her vagina. Although it hurt more than usual, she thought it was an ingrown hair. After days of extreme pain she asked her friend Charlene to look at it. Charlene told her that it looked strange and advised her to go to the doctor.
After running some tests the doctor confirmed that she was infected with an STD called Herpes. He explained to her that herpes is a viral disease and can be treated, but not cured. Jasmine talked to Charlene about her situation. Lately she noticed that Charlene seems to be so busy with other things that they don’t have time to hang out together anymore. Her classmates and other friends in school are treating her strange and cold.
Charlene decides to talk to her class teacher about her situation. What where your first thoughts when you read the first sentence? Do you think Jasmine should have gone to the doctor? Is there any where else she could have gone? What do you know about Herpes? Are there any other STD you know?
